This armor has been made in honor of Shimazu Yoshihiro of the Shimazu Clan who was said to have fought in 52 battles over the course of his life and was a strong and able leader. In 1572, Yoshihiro led 300 men and defeated Itô Yoshisuke's 3,000 in what is sometimes called the "Okehazama of Kyushu". Over the next ten years he would continue lead and fight with his men in victory after victory until he was named daimyô following the submission of the Shimazu to Hideyoshi in 1587. He later led 10,000 men in the First Korean Campaign (1592-93).

This fine authentic reproduction of traditional Japanese yokohagi Okegawa ni-mai dô samurai armor is handmade by the Iron Mountain Armory.  It features actual water buffalo horns attached to the kabuto.
