The tanko was the first style of iron armour which appeared in Japan during the 4th century (heian era). This armor was worn by foot soldiers and had a distinctive lamellar (layered) construction. The Tanko kabuto was the first armor ever made using laminated armor plating joined by rivets and lace and was the base armor set which samurai and modern body armor would be based off of.
This historically accurate reproduction of Tanko kabuto is completely hand crafted from iron and cotton at the world renowned Iron Mountain Armory. Each tanko kabuto is supplied with a portable kabuto stand, to be proudly displayied. The kabuto is wearable and fully functional.
Features: Made from 18 gauge iron, battle ready, leather insert with cotton lining and custom wooden stand. Fits adult head size range of 55 to 65 cm.
