The Shimazu Toshihisa Hari Bachi is masterfully crafted by the two senior Kachushi of Miyami Armory from 32 iron plates in honor of Shimazu Toshihisa (August 1537 – 1592) was a Japanese samurai of the Azuchi-Momoyama period, who served as a senior retainer of the Shimazu clan of Satsuma Province. He was also the commander when Hideyoshi Toyotomi Invaded Kyushu.

The hari bachi kabuto (star bowl helmet) is a bowl style kabuto crafted with multiple plates of iron, meticulously shaped by hand to join with the next plate; forming the shape of a bowl.  The hari bachi kabuto features raised rivet heads, large rivets (o-boshi), small rivets (ko-boshi)or a rivet with a washer at its base (za-boshi).  Unlike the suji-bachi however, the ridges or “ribs” of the joining plates are filed down to give the kabuto a more smoothed appearance.  The hari-bachi kabuto became popular among the noble samurai class during the end of the 16th century.
